Unlike a simple drop hammer, a typical pneumatic hammer does not rely solely on the gravitational force of a falling mass. Instead, it stores potential energy through mechanisms such as mechanical linkages and springs, compressed air, or steam, and then releases this energy during the forging stroke. This stored energy significantly increases the impact force and allows the hammer to deform the billet more efficiently, achieving greater shaping capability and improved control over the forging process.
