Asia Hammer – One of the world’s seven largest forging hammer sculptures
The Asia hammer designed by German artist Andreas Rimkus. Buderus Edelstahl and RWTH Aachen University donated the Aisa Hammer sculpture to the University of Science and Technology Beijing..
The forging hammer is located on the green ground west of the Faculty and Staff Activity Center on Xuezi West Road, east of the Logistics Service Group, and northeast of the Jinwu Building in Beijing University of Science and Technology. It is the landmark sculpture of the New Materials Technology Research Institute. The forging hammer was completed on June 19, 2008, and is currently the only forging hammer sculpture in Asia .
In October 2007, the University of Science and Technology Beijing and Germany’s RWTH Aachen University reached an agreement during a meeting to give the University of Science and Technology Beijing the only forging hammer sculpture in Asia for free.
On June 19, 2008, the Asian Forging Hammer, a landmark sculpture of the New Materials Technology Research Institute , held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, and a lecture on the history of forging hammers was also held.
Craftsmanship
Forging is one of the important methods of material processing.
Forging hammer sculptures commemorate the long tradition of forging technology and art history of mankind .
Features and meaning
The total weight of the Asian forging hammer is 34 tons (including two base supporting steel beams), and the total length of the hammer body is 4.85 meters. The symbol “Ψ” and the Chinese character “hammer” are engraved on the forging hammer. Around the forging hammer, seven fan-shaped marble benches are placed in sequence, forming a small garden around the forging hammer. The names of the seven continents, Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America, Oceania and Antarctica, are engraved on the bench surfaces.
The Asian Forging Hammer is designed to commemorate the history and technology of special steel material processing and manufacturing with Chinese historical traditions and world-renowned. It is also a testimony to the long-term close cooperation and friendly exchanges between the Beijing University of Science and Technology, Budrus Special Steel Co., Ltd. and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. The design of the Asian Forging Hammer refers to the characteristics of traditional Chinese forging hammers, and a ginkgo tree is planted in the center . In this way, after 200 years, a giant hammer handle will grow on each forging hammer, forming a work of art commemorating the long history of forging technology. It is also the third sculpture after Europe and Africa. According to the plan, the seven sculptures will be placed in the seven continents of the world.
